There are 12.5 million private mineral rights owners in the United States earning about $22 billion annually from royalties.

Our goal is to harness the collective power of oil and gas mineral rights owners across the country to hold polluters accountable, protect the environment, and support grassroots movements.

Legacy is important to us and our families.

We dream of a future with clear air, clean water, healthy ecosystems, and connected communities.

Mineral rights owners should feel empowered to make informed decisions that align with our values of responsible stewardship of the environment.

Why We’re Here

The Mineral Rights Action Network is a community of mineral rights owners who believe we have some responsibility for the impacts of oil and gas extraction; to the land, air and water, and to the communities where extraction takes place. We also have a voice, and we’re raising it.

Most of us inherited these rights. We didn't choose the history that came with them, but we can choose what we do now. Fossil fuel extraction has harmed, and continues to harm the environment and our communities — harms that the polluters have largely been allowed to walk away from. As owners, we have standing to demand better, and we're using it.

We want affected communities to have a voice. And we want mineral rights owners to be informed, connected, and making decisions that reflect what we actually value — not just what operators tell us our options are. We believe that part of a responsible legacy is honest reckoning with where our money comes from. That's what this network is for.

We come from different places and hold different views about energy and the future. What we share is the belief that our mineral rights come with responsibilities — and that organizing together, we have more power to act on those responsibilities than we do alone.
